Student Profile
We believe that students at Covenant Christian School
will be those whose lives are characterized by a growing
desire to glorify God in work and life. Students here
will cultivate an appreciation of their uniqueness having
been created in the image of God and will grow in that
relationship as it gives expression to responsibilities
towards God, others, and the physical universe. Responsiveness
and submissiveness to the authority of the home, the
church, and the school, will characterize our students'
behavior, and they will learn to apply the biblical
principles they study.
Spiritual Goals
Christian Life and Commitment: It is our goal to help
our students to glorify God by teaching them to perceive
their world as God's special creation and to provide
carefully constructed opportunities to integrate biblical
principles into holy practice, and productive, disciplined
lives.
Church Attendance
The church is the primary institution to which
God has committed the ministry of the Word and pastoral
oversight. We encourage all of our students and their
families to cultivate close ties with, and even membership
in local churches of like faith. We want all of our
students to commit to fruitful participation in those
churches but do especially insist that our students
attend, at a minimum, one Sunday worship service weekly.
Chapel Attendance
Worship is a central part of student life at
CCS. Weekly chapel services are designed to please God
as well as strengthen the faith and life of our students.
Attendance in chapel is required, and parents are always
welcome to attend.
Curricular Goals
At CCS our primary focus is to provide competent
and comprehensive educational opportunities to covenant
children grounded on the Word of god. We provide every
student with a course of study in the liberal arts with
the integration point being biblical and theological
studies. We encourage an environment of academic and
spiritual development and maintain resources and faculty
which will enhance the learning process for our students.
Weekly worship attendance records are kept on each student.
Intellectual Development
We believe that the Bible teaches that no part
of the educational process can be treated as a realm
of spiritual and theological neutrality. The effects
of sin are so pervasive that without the light of God's
written revelation, the Bible, it would be impossible
to know truth. It is, therefore, our responsibility
to teach our students how to think God's thoughts after
Him and how to take their every thought captive to the
Lordship of Christ (II Cor. 10:5). The goals will be
accomplished, in part, by a comprehensive daily education
in what have come to be known as the "liberal arts"
(i.e., the humanities, arts, and sciences) with the
integration point in the biblical and theological studies.
This "liberal" education provides students with proficiency
in basic skills necessary to thoughtfully meet the demands
of life.
Since the object of all what that we do is to "glorify
God and enjoy Him forever" (shorter Catechism, Question
1), the challenge for our students is to strive for
excellence and achievement in every area of the curriculum.
This will include a college preparatory course of study
for most students, with additional emphasis on communicative
abilities and creative and critical thinking skills
necessary for higher education and practical competence.
Students should refer to the Academic Catalog for specific
course and graduation requirements.
Physical Development
In addition to the development of our student's minds,
God is also concerned that their bodies are properly
maintained, in good health, and kept pure as His unique
temples. Ordinarily, all students will be continuously
enrolled in a course of physical education while at
CCS to maintain physical fitness and to develop skills
for life-long participation in physical activities.
In addition, we will assist each student in recognizing
the bodily dangers and sinful harmful effects of alcohol
and drug abuse and sexual impurity.
Social Development
CCS students are taught to develop attitudes and behavior,
which reflect the moral and ethical values taught in
Scripture. God-ordained measures of counseling and discipline
are used in connection with the daily instruction to
help the students understand and appreciate the biblical
principles, which govern their lives as students and
social behavior in general.
We attempt to prepare each student for responsibilities
and obligations of citizenship within God's Kingdom,
which carry into other visible institutions like government,
marriage and family and the church.
Furthermore, our students will learn the practical and
ethical dimensions and demands of relationships with
peers, adults and other authority figures, in addition
to the cultivation of wholesome relationships with members
of the opposite sex.
Cultural Development
We believe the Scriptures teach that Christians should
not isolate themselves from society. Rather, we teach
our students how to work for the renewal of our society,
natural resources, literature, art, politics, and economics
in anticipation of a new heaven and a new earth. In
the context of our program, students learn to be godly
influences on their culture to the extent that Jesus
taught they should be the salt of the earth and the
light of the world. We teach our students to understand
the biblical answers about joy and creativity, as well
as, the struggles and evils present in human experiences.
Career Orientation
While teaching our students that their most important
goal in life is to glorify God, we also teach them to
produce discipline and productivity in their lives.
Not only do we train our students toward usefulness
within the Christian community, but with society at
large.
Within our school and the Christian community is the
opportunity to share Christ's gifts including the knowledge
and wisdom He gives. Through guided activities, students
are encouraged to cheerfully use these gifts to the
advantage of others within our school and broader covenant
community, and for the salvation of those in the wider
society.
While at CCS, students will acquire a fundamental knowledge
of biblical economics, business, government, and the
use of natural resources. Practical matters relating
to personal finance and stewardship, vocational opportunities,
as well as developing a respect for the value of labor
are also taught.
